I often see on my dash or through the edit tags, edits of people of color where their skin is whitewashed, meaning that their skin in the edit is inappropriately lighter than their actual skin color.This is racist (research it, that’s not what this post is about). I’ve mentioned this on my blog and people suggested I make a full length tutorial on it.
I make edits, okay I get it. Most times I’ll make a coloring for the first gif in a set and then just use it on every other gif in the set, or maybe even use a premade coloring. But this process doesn’t always work if you have POC involved, most of the time it leads to white washing.
In this post, I’ll be talking about how to know when you should be careful about coloring, providing photoshop tutorials on how to edit your existing coloring groups to not whitewash, and show other tips and tricks I’ve learned over time.
I’m a POC and even I had problems with this when I first started using Photoshop, because sometimes you just don’t realize, and it takes time to build those skills and unlearn subconscious racism! So I hope this post helps people become more conscious of whitewashing and to stop doing it. If you need further help figuring out something on Photoshop, message me :)
***Non-editors and white people absolutely should reblog so that you, and others, can be conscious of whitewashing. When you see a whitewashed edit, you should talk to the editor about it politely (even on anon!) or at the very least not reblog.
Let me rant about Julia. I’m have no idea why this hasn’t been said before but basically she found out her very close friend who was best friends with her husband killed him. Like she knows it isn’t fair and she knows he didn’t mean to but he still killed Michael. She never has to forgive. She can leave and never see any of them again and she has every right to do that. She cries and cries and calls out sick for days because she feels like doing exactly that.
Julia Trojan whole heartedly believes that god makes things happen for a reason, she says it the whole show. Excuses very risky choices on what she believes. She says it, she thinks everything happens for a reason but why this? Then her mother tells her not everything needs a reason, it happens weather you like it or not. And though I doubt Julia gives up on her before mentioned beliefs she takes that to heart and thinks of him.
She doesn’t need to do that! She doesn’t need to think about how Donny feels about it because weather he meant to or not he murdered Michael no matter how bad he feels he can’t take that away and he’s so strong for living through that but that’s not the topic whatever she does is so fucking valid and she decides to think about how Donny feels. She puts herself in his shoes and she uses what she knows and thinks of all the conversations and interactions she had with all the boys and she fucking writes Welcome Home, she writes it like it’s supposed to be presented. She writes the shit out of the song, she writes the truth, she writes about how she is grieving but still wants to help them with all that she has.
Julia Fucking Trojan, lost her husband that man she thought she would spend all of her life with to her best friend and in return wrote a poem about how they all deserved better. How she wants to help them and says she would do ANYTHING to let Donny forgive himself. She gets up on a fucking stage, sings about her best friends and how they are traumatized by the shit they’ve seen and how it’s ruined their life and she sings about how her best friend is greaviving over killing her husband and she sings all the way through with NO PROBLEMS.
Fuck man I love Julia Trojan who would do anything for these boys to be happy again.
I’m just super fucking bitter that once the flint water crisis got it’s 15 minutes of fame people stopped giving a shit. The water is still poisoned, people! Donations have plummeted and people have been forced back into drinking and bathing with the water! The medical effects of this are astounding, cases of legionnaires disease have skyrocketed, people are having seizures, people are having weird rashes break out over their body, people (including me!) are having their blood poisoned, and it’s not just lead! it’s coliform bacteria! it’s THMs! it’s all in the water and it gets into the bloodstream and breaks down blood vessels, causing bruising and petechiae and internal bleeding and no one gives a shit anymore and it’s only gotten worse like how many people are going to have to die until people realize this is still a problem
I would like to add that the people of Flint cannot sell their houses, because selling a house with leaded water is illegal. Additionally, households with children can’t stop paying for the water because living in a house without running water is cause for CPS to take their kids. Flint has been living this way for over two years.
We all know and love Miss Kylee @breakburnandendz (tumblr’s funniest blogger and Taylor’s original favourite human) and right now she needs our help. In September, Kylee travelled to St Louis with Anthony to see miss Taylor on the Reputation World Tour when one of her internal organs (her appendix) started rotting inside of her body. Sounds pretty hardcore but in fact this meant that she had to go to the emergency room the night before the show and ended up not being able to see Taylor. You all know how much Kylee loves Taylor and how devastating that would have been (and she was obviously absolutely shattered), but she put on her brave face, told us all that she was grateful for the experiences with Taylor that she’s had, and literally gave her ticket away instead of selling it so another fan could experience the joy.
But anyway. You know how normally when you have an issue with your appendix the surgeon just cuts it out and you eat ice cream for a few days and then you’re sweet for the rest of your life? Yeah well Kylee is superior to others in most ways so it makes sense that her appendix would not be outdone by other people’s regular ass appendixes. Her appendix issue was the worst that her surgeon had ever seen, causing the infection to leak into other parts of her body and making Kylee borderline septic which nearly landed her in the ICU. So after the operation, Kylee took a long time to heal, her antibiotics weren’t working, and they had to put a tube in her stomach and a PICC line in her arm which lasted for weeks and put her pretty much out of commission for way longer than most people would have been. This was obviously a painful and depressing and all around terrible experience which nobody deserves, but especially not Kylee.
At the time she had health insurance through her work, but she no longer works at that particular job so she now has had to depend on government funded insurance, which we all know is terrible to the point of bordering on useless because healthcare in the United States is a terrifying dystopian nightmare. Her bills total over $7000. She can’t afford it. She was worrying to me about what she’s going to do and I suggested making a gofundme, but she said she could never ask people for money. Well, I’m asking for her. Kylee is not and has never been wealthy but since I’ve known her she’s been generous to a fault, always sharing what little she has with others. Only just recently a mutual friend had a loved one pass away very unexpectedly and, despite having all this debt, Kylee organised for us all to send this person flowers so they knew we were thinking of them. She’s always thinking of others and what she can do to make people’s lives better and I think it’s about time for us others to do the same for her.
Don’t worry if you can’t donate much (or at all), just know that every little bit helps. If even a quarter of Kylee’s tumblr followers donated just $1 she would be able to pay off these bills. The original post was actually deleted, I’m assuming because tumblr somehow mistook it for p**n, because they got a 7 year old to write their coding, but anyway. Kylee has a new bill due next week and the total is even more than what she had originally estimated when I first made this gofundme page. The amount of money we’ve raised so far is less than the amount that she will owe in just 3 days. It would mean so much if people could continue spreading awareness or donating if you’re able to (although it’s obviously totally 100% fine if you aren’t able to). Thank you guys 💖
Hi again. Today Kylee got a phone call with the horrific and unexpected news that her bills actually total $42,000. I can’t even imagine the kind of toll this amount of debt must take on someone so young. That’s more than the majority of people her age make in a year. On top of this, Kylee was already financially struggling, her parents are on social security and disability benefits, and she’s expected to help support her entire family with what little she earns at her job. She has absolutely no hope of repaying this in a reasonable timeframe without help. Reaching this amount of money even with a gofundme seems almost impossible, but we’re not going to stop trying. If you can give anything, please do. Every little bit makes a difference. And if you can’t, please don’t feel bad about it - but spreading this post is a really effective way to increase her chances of easing this debt, and it costs no money and almost no time to do so. if you are 13 and there is a 17/18 year old showing interest in you: please run away and never look back. i understand that you feel special; that older person will tell you how mature you are and make you feel special. but please. run away from that person. stay away from them. they do not love you. an 18 year old should not have ANY interest in a 13 year old. please. please be safe. please do not let them manipulate you. they are dangerous. stay away from them
